The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) during an interview with Vanguard at the weekend, said that since President Muhammadu Buhari had decided to shun the demand for legitimate dialogue with militants and stakeholders on the Niger Delta question, its struggle had entered a new phase and it would continue to encumber all avenues by the Federal Government to export crude oil from the region.
The Federal Government had also explained over the weekend why it had refused to enter into dialogue with the Niger Delta Avengers a day after the Avengers blew up three more trunk lines in Bayelsa and Rivers states. According to Vanguard, Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo while delivering a lecture at Elizade University,Ilaramokin, Ondo state, said that the Avengers were not freedom fighters but were instead economic warriors who were fighting for their own private pockets.
Upstream reports that In the Niger Delta, the reputation of Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu has taken a beating over the abortive ceasefire. Further exacerbating the already fragile situation was his removal as managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and re-in statement as chairman, surrounded by a group of northern power brokers. This has possibly created an irreversible situation with regard to any dialogue by both the Federal Government and the militants going forward
