WhatsApp Banned In Brazil Again

The Facebook-owned company and Brazil’s judiciary have been locked in an epic struggle for months now.

A Brazilian court on Tuesday ordered yet another shutdown of the popular messaging app Whatsapp, shutting off service to more than 100 million people in the Latin American country.

The President of the Supreme Court, Ricardo Lewandowski, lifted the ban just four hours later, calling the lower court’s actions “disproportionate.”

Brazil’s courts claim that WhatsApp has failed to cooperate in providing investigators with information relating to a criminal court case. This is the third time in a year that the service has been shut down in Brazil as part of this feud — both times have seen higher courts lift the bans put in place by lower courts.

In the latest decision, Judge Daniela Barbosa de Souza criticized WhatsApp’s behavior, saying she was stunned by a request from the company that the court’s decision be published in English, saying that meant that Facebook was “treating the country as a “banana republic.’”

Whatsapp spokesperson Anne Yeh told BuzzFeed News in an emailed statement: “We’re working to get WhatsApp back online in Brazil. It’s shocking that less than two months after Brazilian people and lawmakers loudly rejected blocks of services like WhatsApp, history is repeating itself. As before, millions of people are cut off from friends, loved ones, customers, and colleagues today, simply because we are being asked for information we don’t have.”

Following the Supreme Court stepping in, Yeh said that WhatsApp is “pleased” by Lewandowski’s action. “In his decision, the chief justice stressed how people from across Brazil, including members of the judiciary, rely on WhatsApp to communicate with others every day, and that they bear the greatest burden when a service is blocked,” she wrote in an email to BuzzFeed News.

In issuing the injunction on behalf of the Popular Socialist Party of Brazil, Lewandowski said that the ruling from de Souza struck at the heart of the freedom of communication. The case in which the decision was ordered, over the authorities’ access to encrypted data when investigating crimes, is still ongoing.

The now suspended decision ordered Brazil’s telecommunications companies to block access to WhatsApp — the service will only be suspended once all telecoms operators have been notified. It also set a fine of 50,000 Brazilian real (US $15278) per day for as long as Facebook does not comply with the court’s request for information.

Lady Gaga pulled over by cops just weeks after getting driver's licence

Newbie driver Lady Gaga was pulled over by police for a traffic violation just weeks after she finally received her driver's licence.

Earlier this month (1Jul16) the 30-year-old Poker Face singer took to her Instagram profile to inform fans she had passed her driving test, writing in a caption attached to a picture of herself behind the wheel of her old school red truck with a friend sitting in the passenger seat: "Thelma and Puhleaaaze (And yes I FINALLY got my license after years of driving with an adult present and a learners permit). I’M FREE. Rollin with the homies."

Although initially delighted by achieving the milestone, on Friday (15Jul16) Gaga got a taste of the bad side of being on the road after being stopped by a traffic cop on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California.

TMZ obtained photos of her conversing with an officer on the side of the road, with the cop looking at paperwork, presumably her licence and registration, while he stands next to the driver's side of her vehicle as she speaks to him through her rolled down window.

No details about the potential moving violation have been revealed, and it is unclear whether she received a ticket for any minor offence.

But the incident seems to have been insignificant, as Gaga had her attention on a larger tragedy just hours after being pulled over.

The pop star took to her Twitter account to acknowledge the tragic attack in Nice, France that took place on the country's national holiday Bastille Day (14Jul16), with the star tweeting to followers: "I am praying for you France. When u open your eyes and see chaos, we will close our eyes and see harmony. We are with you. Praying for the the losses of life in this country & around the world , I pray for the victims families who see no justice. We are one."

The Blank Spaces hit-maker is the godmother of the Sin City actress's youngest son Leo Thames Newman's. King had named Swift her second baby's godmother, in March 2015 – even before his birth.

Sylvester Stallone shares photo he took enjoying fireworks in Nice moments before 'cowardly' massacre

Sylvester Stallone has shared a picture on Instagram, showing the A-list star enjoying the fireworks in Nice just moment before the Bastille attack.

The Hollywood actor was in the French resort with his wife and three daughters for an extended holiday to celebrate his 70th birtday.

He had been regularly updating his Instagram followers about his trip when the terror attack occured.

Sly captioned the “Sadly this was just moments before that horrible, cowardly attack in Nice, France.”

The image shows the Rocky star proudly saluting as fireworks erupt behind him.

Families had gathered for the fireworks display when they were mowed down by Mohammed Bouhlel in the horrific atrocity that has so far claimed 84 lives.

The rampaging lorry travelled for over a mile along the promenade De Anglais, ploughing into men women and children indisrimately.

Singer Rihanna was also in Nice at the time of the attack and later cancelled her scheduled concert there out of respect for the dead.

She appeared tense as she was seen being escorted out of a restaurant amid the massacre on Thursday night.

With a $170m (£130m) fortune, the singer-songwriter is ahead of Adele, who's at number nine with $80.5m (£61.9m), Madonna is in 12th spot with $76.5m (£58.8m) and Rihanna at number 13 with $75m (£57.7m).

On the Hollywood front, Jennifer Lawrence was the industry's highest-paid actress for the second consecutive year, earning $46m (£35.1m), a slight drop from the $52m (£39.7m) The Hunger Games star banked the year before.

Actor Dwayne Johnson wrestled the highest-paid actor spot from Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr, earning $64.5m (£49.3m), largely thanks to the billion-dollar Fast and Furious franchise and the surprising success of 2015's San Andreas movie.

Many athletes also made the list, including Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo ($88m - £67.2m), tennis player Roger Federer ($68m - £51.9m), and British F1 driver Lewis Hamilton ($46m - £34.9m).

Kim Kardashian Covers ‘Forbes’ Magazine as ‘Mobile Mogul’ After Game Earns $160 Million

Reality star turned mobile game magnate. Kim Kardashian landed the cover of Forbes magazine’s July 26 issue after her Kim Kardashian: Hollywood app earned $160 million.

In the game, which launched in June 2014 and is available on iOS and Android for $1.99, players can create their own celebrity, book appearances, befriend Kardashian and, ultimately, rise to the A-list. The app has been downloaded more than 45 million times and has generated $160 million total revenue, although Forbes estimates that the reality star pocketed a mere $45 million.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, 35, also landed the No. 42 spot onForbes’ Celebrity 100 list after she earned $51 million this year, 40 percent of which came from the app alone.

“I became really intrigued with the tech world,” Kardashian told the magazine. “I started spending a lot of time in San Francisco. I realized this is really going to be the next cycle of my career and this is what I want to focus on.”

The mom of daughter North, 3, and son Saint, 7 months, also revealed that she grew up on video games. “I remember I asked Kanye [West], ‘Should I do this?’ He was like, ‘Yes!’ That’s how he got into music because he wanted to do music for video games and wanted to create video games,” she said of hubby Kanye West. “I was like, ‘I wonder if people are really going to … mimic my life.’

To keep the app up-to-date, Kardashian works with developers to sync her daily life with her virtual life. When she traveled to Punta Mita, Mexico, her character in the game arrived on the same day.

“I would give [developer Glu Mobile] bikinis and be like, ‘Hurry up and mock up this bikini, because I’m going to wear it, and then you can have it live in the game!’” she explained.

She went there! Kim Kardashian said on the Sunday, July 10, episode ofKeeping Up With the Kardashians that she fears her lady parts might never be the same if she has a third baby.

During a car ride with Scott Disick, the 35-year-old mom of two said that her husband, Kanye West, is eager to have a third child. She told Disick that the “Famous” rapper, 39, pressed her about having another kid “every day for, like, the last week.”

However, Kardashian — who welcomed daughter North in June 2013 and son Saint in December 2015 with West — doesn’t think she can handle another pregnancy.

“I was like, ‘I don't think I can carry another one,’” she told Disick. “I just think, ‘Ugh, I’ll never be the same down there.’ Kanye says it, like, feels the same.”

Disick, 33 — who is the father of Mason, 6, Penelope, 4, and Reign, 19 months, with Kardashian’s older sister, Kourtney — told the Selfish author that having that many kids can take a toll on one’s nether regions.

While he didn’t answer Kardashian’s question, Lord Disick assured the Kimoji founder that he and Yeezy are not concerned about those kinds of changes.

“I feel like me and Kanye don’t care about that,” Disick continued. “It’s the fact that like something that big has come in and out of there. Things are just different internally. There’s just like bumps and curves, you know what I’m saying? It’s just not the same.”

Kardashian then offered another analogy: “It’s like the same house but the furniture is rearranged.”

“Correct! Exactly!” Disick enthusiastically conceded. “The front door is still the same, but inside the couches have been spread apart and mixed and matched like a hurricane hit.”
