Victor Valdes could be staying in Manchester after all, with the Daily Mail claiming the ousted United stopper is a target for rivals Man City.
The former Barcelona goalkeeper unceremoniously flopped at Old Trafford, but incoming city boss Pep Guardiola, who worked with him at the Nou Camp, clearly still has faith in him.
Although he made just two appearances for United, that was mainly due to the triumphant form of David de Gea.
A falling out with Louis van Gaal further demoted him, though, with Sergio Romero then emerging as de Gea’s back-up.
He won’t be expecting to play much at City either, as Joe Hart is undoubtedly the Sky Blues’ number one.
With City’s busy fixture list, which this season will include Champions League qualification games in the summer, Guardiola is worried that Hart will be overworked.
The England goalkeeper will have had virtually no break because he is spending June on England duty at the Euros, so Valdes could just be a handy back-up.
The news will serve as a blow to Willy Callabero, however, as his heroics in the Capital One Cup final this year appear to have been quickly forgotten.
