The film stars Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a man given the opportunity to unlock the genetic memories of his ancient ancestor.
20th Century Fox
Using a virtual reality machine known as the Animus, Callum discovers he is the descendant of the secret Assassins society.
20th Century Fox
Through the Animus, Callum is able to relive the adventures of his ancestor Aguilar in 15th century Spain. After gaining the knowledge of Aguilar, Callum is able to arm himself in the battle against the Knights Templar in present day.
The film also stars Marion Cotillard, who looks to be part of Abstergo Industries, the modern front for the Templar Order, and those with the Animus.

And the trailer gives us a closer look at Ariane Labed’s character, Maria, kicking some serious 15th century ass.
20th Century Fox
The film is based on a series of video games that follow a centuries-old struggle between two secret societies, the Assassins and the Templars.
20th Century Fox
The games have spanned a fictional version of history from the Third Crusade, the French Revolution, to most recently Victorian London.
While based on the games, the story of Callum Lynch is original to the film, so it’s interesting that for the first time we’re seeing a bit more of his back story.
20th Century Fox
Like the fact that he was apparently in prison, and “executed”, allowing Abstergo to swoop in and use him for some 15th century Spanish parkour.
We also get a glimpse of what looks like the Animus system… which is a little more intense than just putting on a VR headset.
