Niger Delta Avengers blow up NNPC pipelines in Warri

Niger Delta Avengers late Thursday night simultaneously bombed several pipelines operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation around Batan community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Local residents told THE PUNCH on the telephone that multiple explosions were heard, a situation they said threw people of the area into serious panic.
The damaged pipelines are said to be operated by the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company and Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Ltd.,which were subsidiaries of the NNPC.
It was gathered that both crude and gas trunk lines were severely affected in the attacks.
Investigations reveal that the attacks occurred near a military checkpoint.
A source described the attacks as devastating and heinous, adding that the affected lines were strategic to the country’s oil production.
A senior military officer confirmed the incident to our correspondent when contacted.
The spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council, Mr Eric Omare, also confirmed the attacks, saying that the situation was getting out of hands.
In a series of tweets, the militant group claimed responsibility for the attacks, threatening both International and indigenous oil companies to expect more of such attacks in the days ahead.
