Barcelona are said to be sniffing around Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta as a potential replacement for the departing Dani Alves, with Arsenal looking to cling fiercely to the Spanish champions' number one target Hector Bellerin.
Alves is set to leave the Catalan giants this summer after eight years of service, moving to Juventus and leaving a massive gap in the right-hand side of the defence for manager Luis Enrique to fill over the off-season.
"Some of Europe's top clubs are after Azpilicueta's signature", says @GuillemBalague: skysports.tv/gUyb8w
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague told Sky Sports this week that Azpilicueta is in demand around Europe thanks in large part to his ability to play on the right or the left of a defence with assurance, naming Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain as possible suitors.
He then went on to discuss Barcelona's interest, saying: "Bayern Munich are also known to have made an inquiry and his ambidextrous qualities are also much sought-after by Barcelona. In truth, the player that Barcelona really want is Hector Bellerin and they still think they have a chance of taking him from under Arsenal's nose.
"Unfortunately for them Arsenal have made it abundantly clear that Bellerin is going nowhere, at any price, hence Barcelona's plan B which involves Azpilicueta."
