RUMOURS: Arsenal consider shock Deeney bid

The Watford captain has scored six goals in his last 11 appearances and reportedly has a fan in Arsene Wenger, who is in the market for signings to aid the Gunners' title push

Arsenal are considering a shock bid for Watford captain Troy Deeney, according to the Daily Star.

The 27-year-old has been an integral part of the Hornets' impressive start to life in the Premier League, scoring six goals in his last 11 appearances and striking up a formidable partnership with Odion Ighalo.

Ighalo has notched 14 times to become a man in demand but Wenger is said to be a fan of Deeney, who has played in every division of the Football League, as well as the Northern Premier League.

The report claims Watford are unlikely to entertain any bids for their star strikers ahead of another considerable increase to the television money received by Premier League clubs.

Deeney also signed a new five-year contract in the summer.

Wenger, however, is reportedly looking to strengthen his attack as he looks to end a title drought stretching back to 2004.
